Firmware Engineer — NVMe / SSD

About the role

FireFly GX is recruiting a Firmware Engineer specialising in NVMe and SSD controller firmware. The role is fully remote within the United States, with occasional travel for team planning. This is deep embedded work — the command path, the data path, and the flash translation layer underneath both.

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain controller firmware in embedded C for NVMe SSD products
• Implement and optimise the NVMe command path and data path
• Work on flash translation layer, wear levelling and error handling routines
• Debug at register and protocol level using analysers and JTAG
• Work with validation to close out firmware defects ahead of qualification
• Contribute to firmware architecture decisions and code review

Key skills

• Strong embedded C in a resource-constrained environment
• NVMe specification and SSD controller architecture knowledge
• Experience with flash translation layers and NAND management
• Debugging with protocol analysers, JTAG and trace tools
• Version control and a review-driven development process
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience

• PCIe protocol experience
• Prior work through a full product qualification cycle
• RTOS or bare-metal scheduling experience
• Python or Bash for test automation
