Role specification
About the role
FireFly GX is recruiting a PCB Design Engineer for an established electronics manufacturer in Los Osos, California. You'll own printed circuit board design from engineering concept through to production on advanced electronic and power products — the sort of role where manufacturability matters as much as the schematic, and where you'll shape the design standards rather than inherit them.
What you'll do
- Design multi-layer PCBs and PWBs from engineering concept through to production release
- Produce schematics, layouts, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings and bills of materials
- Generate manufacturing data including Gerber and ODB++ outputs for fabrication and stencil procurement
- Apply design for manufacturability principles throughout the design process
- Manage electronic design libraries — schematic symbols, footprints, component models and pad stacks
- Work directly with PCB manufacturers to keep designs compatible with fabrication and assembly processes
- Manage design changes through engineering change control and prepare ECNs
- Support PCB design for test fixtures, automated test equipment and mounting boards
- Investigate and resolve design, fabrication, assembly and manufacturing issues
Key skills
- Professional PCB and PWB design and layout experience
- Strong understanding of surface-mount technology and PCB assembly processes
- Board design for electronic and power supply applications
- Strong grasp of PCB fabrication processes and material selection
- Design for manufacturability, and familiarity with IPC standards
- Professional PCB CAD experience — Altium Designer, Siemens EDA / Mentor Graphics, or Expedition PCB
- Experience producing complete manufacturing-ready documentation packages
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to design
Also useful
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
- Power electronics and power supply design exposure
- PCB stencil design and procurement
- Automated test equipment and production test fixture design
- Experience with MicroStation or Design Capture
What's on offer
- Salary of $80,000 – $145,000 depending on experience and technical expertise
- Ownership of PCB design activity across the full product lifecycle
- Direct influence over internal PCB design standards and best practice
- Close working relationships with fabricators and production teams
- Technically challenging electronic and power-related products
- Full-time salaried position within an established engineering team
