About the role

FireFly GX is recruiting a PCB / Hardware Design Engineer for a defence electronics business in Bristol. The team designs ruggedised mixed-signal hardware against demanding environmental and EMC requirements — the sort of work where the layout decisions matter as much as the schematic.

What you'll do

  • Design multi-layer mixed-signal PCBs from schematic capture through to layout
  • Select components with obsolescence and environmental factors in mind
  • Support signal integrity, power integrity and EMC compliance work
  • Prototype, bring up and characterise new hardware in the lab
  • Produce design documentation to defence-sector standards

Key skills

  • Schematic capture and PCB layout in Altium Designer or similar
  • Analogue and digital circuit design experience
  • Signal integrity and high-speed layout practice
  • EMC design and pre-compliance testing
  • Laboratory bring-up and fault-finding
  • Degree in Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience

Also useful

  • Power electronics or RF front-end design
  • Ruggedised or environmental qualification experience
  • Eligibility for UK security clearance

What's on offer

  • £45,000 – £60,000 depending on experience
  • Hybrid working, three days on site
  • Technically demanding ruggedised hardware
  • Long-term defence programmes with stable funding
