About the role

FireFly GX is recruiting Sales Administrators on behalf of a long-established UK steel stockholder, with vacancies at three sites: Leigh-on-Sea in Essex, Henstridge in Somerset and Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. In anticipation of upcoming retirements, the business has a rare opportunity to bring a limited number of people into an industry-leading sales department, and is keen to hear from candidates with experience as well as those with a strong desire to learn.

This is the administrative engine of the sales desk: you keep enquiries, quotations, orders and records moving accurately so the sales team can sell, and you are the dependable first voice customers hear. Full training is given, and there is a clear route into a sales executive seat for anyone who wants it.

What you'll do

  • Answer, screen and forward incoming calls, acting as a first point of contact for customers
  • Process enquiries, quotations and sales orders accurately and promptly
  • Support the sales team in advising customers on products, availability and pricing
  • Maintain accurate records of all transactions and keep customer account information current
  • Compile management reports for business meetings, including stock and customer performance information
  • Support competitor and stock analysis, production planning and continuous improvement activity
  • Help identify potential in new, dormant and existing accounts and pass opportunities to the sales team
  • Build strong working relationships with customers and with internal production and transport colleagues
  • Attend training courses as required
  • Follow safe systems of work, quality management and environmental management requirements, reporting shortcomings as they arise

Key skills

  • Strong administrative and organisational skills with high attention to detail
  • Confident telephone manner and clear written communication
  • Comfortable working with numbers, pricing and order documentation
  • Accurate data entry and record keeping
  • Able to prioritise a busy workload and work to deadlines
  • Competent with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook
  • Eligibility to work in the UK

Also useful

  • Background in sales administration, internal sales support or customer service
  • Experience within the steel, metals or wider construction materials industry
  • CRM or ERP order processing experience
  • An interest in progressing into a sales executive role over time

What's on offer

  • Competitive salary with annual salary reviews
  • Performance appraisals and an annual bonus scheme, plus a potential discretionary bonus
  • Contributory pension scheme (5%) and life insurance
  • Private medical healthcare and an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Two weeks' sick pay allowance after five years' service
  • Five additional days' holiday after 12 months' service, plus length of service rewards
  • Ongoing training and development, with opportunity for overtime subject to role
