Role specification
About the role
FireFly GX is recruiting Sales Executives on behalf of a long-established UK steel stockholder, with vacancies at three sites: Leigh-on-Sea in Essex, Henstridge in Somerset and Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. In anticipation of upcoming retirements, the business has a rare opportunity to bring a limited number of people into an industry-leading sales department — so this is a genuine succession hire rather than a churn replacement.
You will promote products and services, negotiate pricing, build long-term customer relationships and work to budget. The client is keen to hear both from people with experience and from those with a strong desire to learn, so a steel background is useful but not a barrier either way.
What you'll do
- Sell the company's products and services on a consultative level, advising customers on pricing
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with a portfolio of customers, responding proactively to new sales enquiries
- Confidently approach new clients for potential business, using strong negotiation skills to secure future growth and profit
- Grow the customer base by identifying potential in new, dormant and existing accounts
- Stay commercially and technically aware of the industry and the use of steel across construction, agricultural, architectural and automotive sectors
- Maintain accurate transaction records and compile management reports for business meetings
- Analyse competitor and stock positions, production planning, customer performance and new business opportunities
- Answer, screen and forward incoming calls
- Attend training courses as required
- Follow safe systems of work, quality management and environmental management requirements, reporting shortcomings and intervening to prevent breaches
Key skills
- Confident telephone manner and strong verbal and written communication
- Strong negotiation skills and commercial awareness
- Ability to build and hold long-term customer relationships
- Accurate record keeping and comfort working to sales budgets and targets
- Organised approach with good attention to detail
- Eligibility to work in the UK
Also useful
- Background in a similar internal or external sales position
- Experience within the steel, metals or wider construction materials industry
- Understanding of steel products and their use in construction, agricultural, architectural or automotive applications
- CRM or ERP system experience
What's on offer
- Competitive salary with annual salary reviews
- Performance appraisals and an annual bonus scheme, plus a potential discretionary bonus
- Contributory pension scheme (5%) and life insurance
- Private medical healthcare and an Employee Assistance Programme
- Two weeks' sick pay allowance after five years' service
- Five additional days' holiday after 12 months' service, plus length of service rewards
- Ongoing training and development, with opportunity for overtime subject to role
